1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using Imperial Quiz ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of the Service

Imperial Quiz is a free, community-driven quiz platform for Age of Empires II players. The Service allows users to take quizzes, track their progress, earn experience points, and contribute questions for community review.

3. Accounts

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You must provide accurate information during registration. You may not share your account or allow others to access it. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.

4. User-Generated Content

Users may submit quiz questions and other content ("User Content") for community review. By submitting User Content, you represent that:

The content is original or you have the right to submit it.
The content does not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights.
The content is not offensive, abusive, discriminatory, or illegal.

You grant Imperial Quiz a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute your User Content within the Service. We reserve the right to review, moderate, edit, or remove any User Content at our sole discretion.

5. Intellectual Property

Age of Empires II is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation. Imperial Quiz is an independent fan project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Microsoft.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Use bots, scrapers, or automated tools to access the Service.
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other accounts or systems.
Exploit bugs or vulnerabilities instead of reporting them.
Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
Interfere with the normal operation of the Service.

7. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that we determine to be harmful to the Service or its users. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us.

8. Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. In no event shall Imperial Quiz be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. We will notify registered users of significant changes via email.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Spain. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Spain.

Privacy Policy

1. Data Controller

Imperial Quiz is operated as an independent project. For any privacy-related inquiries, you can reach us at [email protected].

2. Data We Collect

We collect the following personal data when you use the Service:

Account data: email address, username, and nationality (optional), provided during registration.
Authentication data: password stored as a secure hash. We never store your password in plain text.
Usage data: quiz responses, scores, experience points, rank progression, and submitted questions.
Acquisition data: when you start a quiz or register, we may record the first landing pathname, external referring website host, and selected campaign source, medium, and campaign labels. We do not store the full referring URL or your IP address for this purpose.
Web analytics data: if Cloudflare Web Analytics is active for your visit, its browser beacon measures page visits and performance, including page and referring URLs, navigation and resource timings, and Core Web Vitals. Cloudflare also provides aggregate breakdowns such as country, browser, and device type. This is separate from the acquisition data recorded when you start a quiz or register.
Technical data: IP address and browser user agent, collected automatically for security and abuse prevention.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data under the following legal bases (GDPR Article 6):

Consent: you voluntarily create an account and provide your data.
Contract performance: processing is necessary to provide the Service (quizzes, rankings, progress tracking).
Legitimate interest: security measures, abuse prevention, and service improvement.

4. Purpose of Processing

Your data is used to:

Provide and maintain the Service (quizzes, rankings, stats).
Authenticate your identity and protect your account.
Display leaderboards and community rankings.
Communicate important updates about the Service.
Prevent abuse and ensure platform security.
Understand which referral and campaign channels lead to quiz starts and registrations.
Measure site traffic and browser performance where Cloudflare Web Analytics is active.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will erase your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Anonymized usage statistics may be retained indefinitely.

When acquisition data is recorded, account-linked details follow the account deletion process. A daily cleanup clears any recorded acquisition details on unclaimed anonymous quiz sessions once they are older than 90 days, without deleting the quiz session itself. A non-identifying marker then prevents that session from acquiring a new origin.

Cloudflare makes Web Analytics reports available to us for the previous six months. Cloudflare retains unsampled beacon data for seven days before aggregating it for longer-term reports.

6. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
Erase your data ("right to be forgotten").
Port your data to another service in a structured format.
Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
Withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

7. Cookies and Local Storage

Imperial Quiz does not use tracking cookies. We store authentication tokens (JWT) in your browser's localStorage to keep you signed in. An authenticated request sends its token to our API through Cloudflare's proxy. The token is removed from localStorage when you log out. When acquisition data is captured, we may keep the first landing pathname, external referring website host, and selected campaign labels in sessionStorage for the browser session. Campaign parameters are removed from the address bar after capture. Captured origin data is sent only when you start a quiz or register.

Where Cloudflare Web Analytics is active, its beacon does not access or store cookies, localStorage, or sessionStorage for measurement.

8. Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Your data may be processed by our hosting provider for the purpose of running the Service. Cloudflare proxies website traffic for delivery and security. Where Cloudflare Web Analytics is active, its browser script also sends page and performance measurements to Cloudflare. Cloudflare states that it discards the beacon's connection IP at the nearest data center and does not store it in its core databases or logs. The data may be processed in a country different from yours. We do not use advertising services.

9. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure password hashing, and access controls. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of significant changes via email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
